The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified a 28-year-old Denver-area man while hiking Saturday on Blodgett Peak.
Christopher Schumacher survived the initial fall and died as he was being rescued by emergency responders, officials said.
Search crews found Schumacher at about 4 a.m. on Sunday by tracking his cellphone after family reported him overdue.
Rescuers were carrying Schumacher down from “treacherous” terrain when he died, authorities said.
The coroner’s office said it did not know exactly where in the Denver area Schumacher was from.
