Denver police are continuing to investigate the death of an aspiring female rapper shot in east Denver on Tuesday night but say there are no updates in the case.
Rachel Aboytes, 21, a rap artist who used the name “Baby Smiley,” was found wounded about 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of East 16th Avenue and Valentia Street. A second woman, who has not been identified, was found about a block away with wounds that were not life-threatening.
Rapper Wonderlox released a YouTube tribute to Aboytes online Thursday, titled “Rest In Peace Rachel Aboytes (Baby Smiley).”
According to her Facebook page, Aboytes worked at Cirkulo Asesino Entertainment, based in California. The company’s website said it is “the world’s largest Mexican rap record label.”
Company officials said Aboytes was signed to the label in 2013 on a three-album deal, adding that the first had not been released.
Aboytes had collaborated with two other Cirkulo Asesino artists, Mr. Yosie and Triste de Nemesis, on a song, “Southsiders,” that has had more than 1 million views on YouTube.
