WINDSOR — Windsor High School’s diversity week came with an unplanned lesson when a Confederate flag was spotted on a vehicle in the school’s student parking lot.
Assistant principal Dick Thomas said school officials tried to strike a balance between students’ First Amendment rights and concerns about what many see as a racist symbol as flags flew from some students’ cars.
On Tuesday, a resident called the high school to complain about a Confederate flag she saw on a vehicle in the school’s lot.
“When we got contacted, I went out and looked to see if (the flag was there), and it was,” Thomas said. “So I was going to ask the student if they would mind removing it, but the student wasn’t there.”
