Police in Colorado Springs say a man arrested on suspicion of being involved in a fight early Friday head-butted an officer in the face while in custody.

The officer sustained minor injuries.

Bobby Joe Harris Jr. is being held at the El Paso County jail on suspicion of assault on a peace officer and second-degree assault — both felonies — in the incident.

An officer near the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and East Uintah Street at about 1 a.m. saw Harris and another person fighting, police say.

After the officer broke up the fight, Harris was arrested and as being escorted to a temporary holding cell he “head-butted an officer in the face causing a minor injury,” police said.

Jail records show Harris is being held in lieu of a total of $20,000 bail.
