Metro Denver ranked sixth out of the country’s 53 largest metro areas for population growth last year and fourth for luring residents from other states, according to an .
Metro Denver’s population rose 2.02 percent in 2014 from 2013, a growth rate exceeded only by the Texas cities of Austin, Houston and San Antonio, and Orlando, Fla., and Raleigh, N.C.
The only U.S. cities to surpass Denver’s 1.09 percent gain in domestic net migration last year were Austin, Raleigh and Nashville.
Denver’s population has risen from 2.54 million in 2010 to 2.75 million last year, ranking it 21st in size among U.S. metros with 1 million or more residents, Newgeography said.
New home and apartment construction has failed to keep pace, resulting in some of the sharpest increases in home prices and rents of any metro in the country.
Cities with the largest rate of people leaving last year included New York and Rochester, N.Y., Hartford, Conn., Chicago and Memphis, Tenn.
