DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is standing by its decision to allow a land swap that would provide access to a proposed village near Wolf Creek Ski Area.

The agency announced Thursday that Deputy Regional Forester Maribeth Gustafson affirmed November’s decision following a review of objections.

The fight isn’t over yet though. The Durango Herald (http://bit.ly/19YyaOi ) reports that environmental organizations have filed two federal lawsuits seeking records related to the land swap.

The deal calls for billionaire B.J. McCombs’ development group to get about 200 acres of forest land, allowing it to build a road connecting the proposed village to U.S. Highway 160. In exchange, the Forest Service would get 178 acres on the Continental Divide.

The agency says it must review the forester’s instructions before deciding how to proceed.
