Oskar Blues Brewery, Colorado’s second largest independent craft brewery, announced Friday the acquisition of small but growing Perrin Brewing Company of Comstock Park, Mich.

Oskar Blues spokes Chad Melis the Longmont-based company was looking to acquire smaller breweries in response to questions about whether Oskar Blues would entertain offers to sell.

The deal is the first Colorado domino to fall .

The two breweries’ relationship bagan in 2014 with a collaboration lager. Oskar Blues said in a news release it teamed up with former West Side Beer Distributing owner and Michigan native Keith Klopcic in orchestrating the deal. Klopcic will serve as president of Perrin Brewing, which is four years old.

“Challenging the craft collaboration concept and taking it to the next level with Keith and the Perrin crew is exciting,” Oskar Blues founder Dale Katechis said in a statement. “Growing Oskar Blues and engaging new communities across the country has been a ton of fun and has given us the experience we can bring to a partner like Perrin to hit the next gear.”

The partnership unites breweries from two of the country’s biggest craft beer states. Perrin, just outside the craft beer center of Grand Rapids, produced 14,000 barrels in 2014. Oskar Blues, which operates a second brewery in Brevard, N.C., brewed nearly 150,000 barrels in 2014 and distributes in 42 states.

The terms of the sale were not disclosed.
