A stolen cellphone, which an alleged thief used to take selfies that automatically were posted on the owner’s Facebook page, has been returned.

Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez said that someone other than the suspect returned the cellphone to the department Friday afternoon. Lopez added that it had not been determined whether charges would be filed against the suspect, who was not identified because she is 17.

“It is still an ongoing, active investigation,” Lopez said.

Officials said the phone, which from a purse at a bar last weekend, is linked to the victim’s Facebook account. That account has posted numerous photos the alleged thief took of herself.

When the phone was called early this week, the woman who answered refused to return it.

“There were just a lot of selfies of her around downtown Denver,” the victim, 23-year-old Rawley Bingham, told 9News this week. “She had a great Sunday.”

The story of the theft has been featured in national news. Denver police had offered a Crime Stoppers reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the resolution of the case.
