The former bar at Longo’s Subway Tavern has resurfaced — for sale — at The Antique Broker on South Broadway in Denver. (Photo by William Porter)

Hey, I thought the bar had a familiar look!

For anyone who ever bellied up to in north Denver, the venerable pizza joint’s massive oak bar was a memorable sight — long, mirrored and grandiose in that Old West way, with giant pillars and side cabinets to boot.

So when my wife and I walked into at 1438 S. Broadway, there was a bit of a whiplash moment at the first object we laid eyes on: That very bar, pulled from the tavern after it closed in 2012 and was purchased by Larimer Associates, partners in Billy’s Bar, LoHi Steak Bar, TAG and others.

But sure enough, a hand-printed sign on the mirror announced that it was indeed the bar in question: “Brunswick back and front bar with 2 back bar side cabinets. From the old Subway Tavern on 38th and Lipan St. Denver, Colorado.” The tavern, by the way, was housed in a century-old building, so this big beauty has some age on it.

Oh yes, there was a pricetag too: $125,000. Raise a glass to yourself if you have that in your petty cash drawer.

I got in touch with the gentleman who runs the shop this morning, hoping for more info, but he was on the road back from Grand Junction. I wasn’t going to be the guy to put him in jeopardy on mountain roads with even a brief conversation, so we agreed to talk tomorrow — when maybe I’ll have more info for this post. For the record, the store phone is 303-722-1350.
