FOWLER, Colo. (AP) — A controlled burn is believed to have started a wildfire outside the town of Fowler in southeastern Colorado.

KKTV (http://bit.ly/1DriOyB) reports that the fire grew to about 130 acres late Wednesday and crews worked through the night to keep it from spreading.

Fire crews were able to protect two homes on the north side of the fire by building containment lines. U.S. Highway 50 was shut down by the fire, about 40 miles east of Pueblo, but is now back open.

A red flag warning for high fire danger was in effect Wednesday but officials say the burn was likely conducted on Tuesday and wasn’t completely put out.
