FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Investigators say a Fort Collins woman found dead in November was kidnapped, beaten and stabbed before her body was dumped in rural Larimer County.

The details about the death of 28-year-old Andrea Bartmess were released for the first time Wednesday during a court hearing for one of five people charged in her death, 45-year-old Michael Bensen.

The Coloradoan newspaper (http://noconow.co/1P300Zq ) reports that another suspect, who has agreed to testify for prosecutors, says Bartmess was targeted because she cooperated with law enforcement on a drug case. Lawyers for Bensen argue that 28-year-old Tyson Darby isn’t reliable and waited six weeks before reporting the alleged attack to authorities.

Investigator Rita Servin testified that several of the suspects are believed to have consumed methamphetamine and possibly marijuana and alcohol before the attack.
