A man accusedin a hit-and-run motorcycle collision was charged Friday with vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to the Denver District Attorney’s Office, Chad Copeland, 25, was driving a motorcycle northbound in the 800 block of Federal Boulevard on Jan. 25 when he accelerated and tried to pass traffic in the median.

Copeland allegedly ran into a truck that was stopped at a light, and then lost control and hit another motorcycle rider, resulting in serious injuries. The charges further allege that Copeland left the scene in another vehicle without contacting the police, officials said.

Copeland was arrested and released from custody on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 13.
