For his next act, Brian Carey wants his college, Texas Southern, to play in the NCAA Tournament.

“It has always been one of my lifelong dreams,” the Denver East senior said.

He is checking items off his list. Saturday, he checked another in leading the Blue over the Gold 84-82 in overtime at the 15th version of The Show, all-star games sponsored by the Nuggets and Gold Crown, at the Pepsi Center.

On a court of stars, Carey was the brightest. The MVP scored a game-high 24 points, including the winning basket on a floater in the lane. Game rules stipulate the first basket wins in the extra session, not unlike on the playground, and it capped his career.

“I’ve had the best four years any kid could have had, and this was a great way to end it,” he said.

Charles Garvin of Denver South backed the Blue with 14 points. Chaparral’s Chris Moody led the Gold with 17.

For girls, Broomfield’s Callie Kaiser said “it’s hard to say goodbye, but exciting to start a new chapter.”

Headed to Colorado State, Kaiser and MVP Brooke Pemberton (Fossil Ridge) led the Gold to a 67-64 win over the Blue, which rallied late behind Grandview sophomore Michaela Onyenwere (16 points, eight rebounds, three blocks).
