Milwaukee — Relief is on the way for the Rockies’ starting rotation.

Lefty Jorge De La Rosa, the club’s best pitcher, is on pace to return to the team on April 14 in San Francisco. That’s the first day the Rockies will need to utilize a five-man rotation.

“I feel good … my arm feels perfect,” De La Rosa said Monday morning before the Rockies’ season-opener against the Brewers at Miller Park.

The lefty, sidelined most of spring training with a strained left groin, threw a 45-pitch simulated game on Sunday and encountered no problems. He is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday night against Reno (Nev.). He’ll hike his pitch count up to 75 or so pitches, and if that goes well, he’ll be ready to join the Rockies’ rotation in San Francisco.

“He threw yesterday, with no issues,” manager Walt Weiss said. “He’s in a good place and he’s recovering quickly, so we are excited about getting him out there. Most likely he’ll need only one (rehab assignment) if all things go well in that start, I don’t seem him having to make another one.”

De La Rosa was 14-11 with a 4.10 ERA last season, and was terrific at home, going 10-2 with a 3.08 ERA at Coors Field.
