Drivers of electric cars will soon have double the number of charging stations at Denver International Airport.
Ten new electric vehicle charging spots will be installed in DIA’s west parking garage.
The project has an estimated cost of $85,000, $32,000 of which will be covered by the state’s Charge Ahead Colorado Electric Vehicle and Charging Station grant fund, according to DIA.
The 240-volt charging stations provide an estimated 20 miles of range per hour of charge — a sharp contrast to the airport’s 10 existing stations, which provide 5 miles of range per hour of charge, according to DIA.
Consumer interest drove the project, airport CEO Kim Day said.
“Since adding electric vehicle charging stations in 2013, we have seen a tremendous response from passengers and an increasing demand for charging stations,” she said.
DIA employees also have five new recently installed Level 2 stations, which were partially funded by the Charge Ahead Colorado grant, which funded $31,300 of the $66,100 project.
