LOVELAND — As Memorial Day approaches, Bill Cobb of Fort Collins is joining Veterans for Peace’s appeal to encourage people to write memorial letters addressed to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., and express thoughts, memories and feelings about the war.
Cobb said Veterans for Peace, which tries to inform people of the causes and cost of war, is recognizing 2015 as the 50th anniversary of U.S. engagement in the Vietnam War. (But many consider 1955 to be the start of the war, although there was no official declaration.)
“They thought since it was the 50th, this would be a good time (for this program), especially considering current wars in the Middle East and people suffering so much when they come home,” Cobb said.
He worries about vets that can’t get doctors’ appointments or had incidents with sexual abuse or suicide.
