A Central Parking sign advertises $35 parking for a Rockies game on Oct. 1, 2007. (Denver Post file)
As a worker in LoDo, I am paying $15 a day to Central Parking. (That rate was just posted Tuesday and is the third rate hike since the beginning of 2015.) On the Rockies’ opening day, last Friday, the rate was $40. The Rockies play 11 afternoon weekday games this season; that equals $440 in parking — $275 more than the current standard daily rate of $15 for those who park for work.
Downtown is becoming increasingly hostile to people who don’t ride bikes to work or are too old or too infirm to ride the bus. The only conclusion that one can reach is that Central Parking and other lots have become greedy at the expense of their regular customers.
