Lakewood police have identified a 20-year-old man killed early Thursday after running a red light and driving into a King Soopers semi-trailer.

Robert Buckingham, of Centennial, was driving a 2010 Honda Fit southbound on Wadsworth Boulevard when he collided with the semi-trailer at about 2:15 a.m. at Jewell Avenue, police said.

Police say the semi-trailer was making a left turn on a green arrow when Buckingham slammed into it, shearing off the car’s roof.

Images from the scene showed Buckingham’s car badly mangled and lodged beneath the truck’s trailer.

Police say toxicology results for Buckingham are pending.
