The Replacements — Fillmore Auditorium, April 19
In September of 2013 many of the fans who saw the Replacements at Riot Fest Denver thought they were witnessing one of the bands final reunion shows, and presumably, their final Colorado show. At that point, the band had only announced a handful of long-awaited reunion performances, and Denver was the final show. It was the beautiful mess that many hoped it would be, and Reverb described it as “proper shambles,” but it wasn’t the iconic band’s last appearance. After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band announced that it would be taking its reunion on tour, and Denver is getting its second taste of the Replacements. The band plays Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium on April 19. ($47.50, livenation.com)
Lord Huron — April 22, Gothic Theatre
Lord Huron’s story telling goes beyond the music. Though the band expands its songs to multiple mediums — comics, film and more — it all starts with a personal experience from songwriter Ben Schneider. “You have to understand the emotional underpinning of a story to tell a good story,” . “I always try to start with something thatap happened to me or someone close to me and I take that emotion and I expand it or imagine it in other situations or through someone else’s eyes. Despite how far out into fiction it can go, my philosophy is to start something real.” Schneider will be weaving these tales live on April 22 at a sold out show at the Gothic Theatre.
José González — April 20, Gothic Theatre
Gentle and pensive, José González’s music has caught the ear of fans of the similarly minded Iron & Wine and Bon Iver. The Swedish indie-folk singer-songwriter and member of Junip just released his third solo album, “Vestiges & Claws,” in February and gained his first chart position in the U.S. The success in the states continues for González, as he plays a string of sold out dates, including one at the Gothic Theatre on April 20.
Snoop Dogg, A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz — April 20, Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre
We are admittedly . But, this is the biggest 4/20 party of the year, and we’re actually pretty excited for Snoop’s supporting artists on April 20. A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz will be opening the big show. We about his relationship with the unofficial weed holiday — he doesn’t much care about it because every day is 4/20 for him. But he wants to make it a fun day for everyone who doesn’t have the means to smoke all the time. “I think itap for people who want to get really high and normally don’t and they’re looking forward to repeating it again. Then people can always say they celebrated with me and Snoop and it will be memorable for them,”
Pxlman, SPELLS, Julian Church — April 23, Hi-Dive
To be honest, we don’t know much about Pxlman’s music beyond the single the dance-pop act released a mere two hours ago. To the duo’s credit, it’s a fun little number that gives us hope for what’s to come at Pxlman’s single release party at the Hi-Dive on April 23. Pxlman is made up of Total Ghost’s Randy M. Washington and local visual designer and DJ Gracie McGuire. To add to the party on April 23, Pxlman has invited the always crazy SPELLs and Air Dubai’s Julian Church (for a DJ set) to open the show.
