HIGHLANDS RANCH — It was cold, windy and rainy with a lightning delay, but so what? Rock Canyon has been waiting for this. The Jaguars were rewarded in their patience Wednesday with an 8-2 road victory at recent nemesis Mountain Vista.
The Jags moved to 14-2 overall, 6-1 in the Class 5A Continental, and can take further control of the loop with a victory Friday at another rival, Legend. They’ve never won a 5A league since beginning in 2008.
“The chance is here, absolutely,” Jags coach Tyler Munro said. “We’re playing for something, playing for seeding. It should be fun. We came in loose, and that’s what we have to do on Friday.”
Starter and winner Bryce Dietz went six innings and was sharp. “This is a great opportunity, we’re excited,” he said.
The Jags handled four Mountain Vista pitchers. They had eight hits, two each by Daryl Myers and Ben Sneider, who also had two RBIs. Myers added an RBI, as did Logan O’Neill and Cole Howard. The Golden Eagles (12-4, 5-2) committed three errors in the third inning, when they gave up the lead, and didn’t recover. They also grounded out to the pitcher five times.
