Denver Public Health’s investigation of a tuberculosis case at Metropolitan State University of Denver has found a small number of positive test results for TB infection among the patient’s contacts.
“No one new has been identified with active or contagious TB,” health officials reported Tuesday.
Denver Public Health expects a certain proportion of the population to test positive for TB infection without ever having a known exposure to TB, officials said. In testing a group of this size, officials would expect to find four to 10 positive test results, but they have found even fewer and don’t believe transmission of the disease occurred on the campus. They said risk of further transmission remains low.
Only those directly contacted by Denver Public Health or MSU Denver need to be tested at this time, officials said.
Facts about TB are available on the Denver Metro Tuberculosis Clinic’s website. Questions from the general public about TB should be directed to the individual’s primary care provider or 303-389-1687.
