Elitch’s marks 125 years of thrills
Saturday When Elitch Gardens opened in North Denver in 1890, roller coasters, water slides and costumed characters were not the standard in theme parks. Fast-forward through decades, different owners and locations, and the Elitch name has managed to hang on, providing a rare urban theme park with Six Flags-style attractions and the compact grounds a hemmed-in space necessitates. This year’s opening heralds a new water attraction — the six-story SlideZilla — the included-with-admission concert series “Dive-In” movies at the water park and visits from SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer May 2-3. The park’s 53 rides and attractions are generally open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. May 2-Nov. 1, but times and days vary. $70 season pass, $30-$35 daily admission (when bought online). 2000 Elitch Circle. 303-595-4386 or .
