Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey, left, and Denver Police Chief Robert White. (Denver Post file photos)
Re: “Denver DA questions lack of arrests in gang shooting deaths,” May 8 news story.
Why is it that Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey makes a habit of publicly criticizing Denver Police Chief Robert White? His latest criticism is focused on a perceived lack of enforcement by the Denver Police Department in some gang-related deaths.
I was police chief in Westminster for 25 years, and we always had an excellent relationship with the district attorneys in Jefferson County and in Adams County, and when we had differences of opinion, none of us went crying to the media. We met and worked them out.
It seems terribly counter-productive for Morrissey to be coming out with these public bombshells against Chief White. Why can’t he just sit down man to man with Chief White and iron out any differences rather than always playing the media card? We already have enough problems in our system of criminal justice. Settle down, Mitch.
