Two Class 4A baseball district sites on the Western Slope were deemed playable and actually were completed on Sunday, each won by Jefferson County clubs.

Defending state champion Green Mountain and Evergreen each won two games to advance to the classification’s Championship Series that will feature a double-elimination format.

In Montrose, where the Indians were seeded No. 2, Green Mountain, the 15th seed, first downed No. 18 Canon City 8-7, then the Rams edged Montrose 7-6. Earlier Montrose spanked The Classical Academy 13-2.

The Rams will take a 15-6 record into the double-elimination rounds.

In Durango, where the host Demons were a surprise No. 8 seed, Evergreen first beat Delta 5-1 before handling Durango 8-3. The Demons had advanced by slipping past Eagle Valley by 6-5.

The Cougars improved to 16-5.

With just a handful of qualifiers to date, the remaining sites in the upper three classifications are pointing to Tuesday to resume play.
