Transportation officials are warning motorists of overnight closures and delays on U.S. 6 just west of Interstate 25 on Monday night into early Tuesday as crews complete a lane shift.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says the closure will allow traffic in the westbound lanes of the highway to be shifted north onto a new collector-distributor road designed to filter I-25 traffic.

The westbound U.S. 6 off-ramp to Federal Boulevard and the Federal Boulevard on-ramp to westbound U.S. 6 will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., CDOT says.

There will also be intermittent lane closures on westbound U.S. 6 as needed beginning at 7 p.m., according to CDOT.

“Following the shift, drivers looking to exit westbound U.S. 6 at Federal Boulevard will do so from the left lane — a substantial change, as currently traffic exits at Federal from the right lane,” CDOT said in a news release. “Drivers on westbound U.S. 6 wanting to exit at Federal Boulevard should prepare by getting in the left lane leading up to Federal and following posted signs to exit at the correct location.”

CDOT says motorists should also expect closures Tuesday night into early Wednesday as crews shift eastbound U.S. 6 traffic to the north, clearing substantial room on the south half of the highway.

The Tuesday closures and delays will begin at 7 p.m. and last until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The construction is part of CDOT’s .
