People in northeast Denver want a community food co-op, and they’re working to make it happen. They’ve organized into a group called the Northeast Community Co-op Market, and on May 17 they’re holding their second annual event, Rock the Food Co-op II: Bluegrass & Brews Edition, on Stapleton’s Conservatory Green.
They’ll have a beer garden featuring such microbreweries as Station 26 and Mu Brewing, along with a food truck rally that includes Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs, Crock Spot, Colorado Pig Rig, A Taste of the Philippines, and Chibby Wibbitz.
The co-op says it has one of the fastest growing memberships in the nation with 650 members since incorporating last summer, and is hoping to reach at least 1,500 members by the time it opens its doors. They’re currently considering sites in North Aurora and East Denver.
The Sunday event is like an old-fashioned celebration of community – with lawn games, children’s crafts, and live music by That Damn Sasquatch and Modern Whiskey Market.
Vendors include the Urban Farm at Stapleton, Modern Gingham Preserves, Stapleton Roasters, Slow Food Denver, and Infinite Harvest.
There’s even an old-fashioned pricing structure: free.
It will be held May 17 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stapleton’s Conservatory Green at the corner of #. 49th Pl. and Valentia St.
