SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Earthquakes’ new state-of-the-art venue, Avaya Stadium, will host the 2016 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.
MLS Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott made the announcement Thursday at Avaya. Commissioner Don Garber didn’t attend at the last-minute with no reason given.
Abbott says, “it’s world-class, it’s spectacular and the whole world’s going to get to see it.” The game will be in late July next year.
Avaya, an 18,000-seat soccer-specific stadium, just hosted the U.S. women’s team’s win against Ireland on May 10.
Earthquakes President Dave Kaval says: “This is a super exciting day for San Jose, for the Earthquakes. People know it’s a great venue to watch soccer.”
The franchise broke ground on the privately funded, $100 million stadium in October 2012.
The 2015 MLS All-Star game will take place July 29 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. The of the English Premier League.
