Re: “Charles Krauthammer has no credentials for critiquing Iraq decisions,” May 28 letter to the editor.

In a recent letter to The Post, veteran Joe Aiello wrongly condemned columnist Charles Krauthammer, a non-veteran, for criticizing American defense policy. Under the First Amendment, Krauthammer has the right to criticize America’s defense or anything else.

As a fellow veteran, I don’t believe a person should have had to serve in the military to criticize our defense policy. One doesn’t need to have been a professional baseball player to criticize the Colorado Rockies, or to have held public office to criticize members of Congress.

I disagree with Krauthammer on just about everything, including his position on keeping troops in Iraq. That doesn’t mean I want The Post to stop running his columns.

Joe Aiello chastised Charles Krauthammer for saying that President Obama should not have withdrawn troops in Iraq because Krauthammer has never walked a mile in Aiello’s combat boots. Does Aiello know that Obama has absolutely no military experience whatsoever? Because of Obama’s extreme lack of insight, he cut and ran, leaving the Middle East in total chaos, with no end in sight to the terror being experienced there. Obama has no viable strategy to defeat the Islamic State, which continues to take over cities as the region collapses. All this began after Obama made the mistake of withdrawing troops and abandoning the Iraqis.
