State Rep. John Buckner, a former Overland High School principal, died May 28 after a brief illness.
John Buckner was an integral asset to the development and success of the Cherry Creek School District and in particular Overland High School, where I attended.
He was a leader who was always seen among students. His confidence and his ability to connect with all walks of life were palpable. When I heard that he passed away after a brief illness, I was heartbroken.
Our wonderful city of Aurora and great state of Colorado have lost a great man. May God give his family much strength and patience during their time of grief and sadness, and may he rest in eternal peace.
