Denver finally makes Amazon’s the top 20 list of well-read cities. No. 1 title? This 8-year-old book.

Amazon came out with its annual “” list today to show the world where the bulk of its book-buying customers live.

Seattle was at the top. (Hmmm… does in that city get a discount?)

Denver came in at number nine, sandwiched between Albuquerque and Louisville, Kentucky.

Not bad, since Denver is the .

But consider this: Denver wasn’t even on the . Or . It also didn’t make the or , but both those years.

Denver has never made it on the list. Ever.

But this year, Amazon tweaked the list. It’s now based on a per capital count and only included cities with more than 500,000 residents for the first time this year. Previously, it included cities above 100,000 population (sorry Boulder).

The annual list compiles customer purchases of all book, magazine and newspaper sales in print and Kindle formats from April 2014 to April 2015.

Maybe we just prefer to shop local for our reading material because we’ve got such a great resource in the , plus the variety of the city. Or perhaps it’s the innovative library systems or surrounding counties, like .

Amazon doesn’t offer analysis on why Denver is now among the top 10 but interestingly, the top-selling book for the past year was 2007’s “. Need to figure out your top five talents? This is the book for you.
