Earlier today, released “Glory,” a bravado-filled track and the first single off his “Free Weezy” album.
The song plays like an opulent love letter from the NOLA native to himself, and he’s sparing no expense. It’s almost five minutes long and includes an operatic choir sample and chunky beats, over which Weezy airs the Cash Money family’s dirty laundry. Rhyming almost every other word, Wayne says this track and the entire “Free Weezy” movement is him calling an audible in an effort to cut ties from Cash Money.
We get a quasi-vulnerable version of Weezy from a conceptual perspective here as he describes losing his way — only to find the path again by taking an introspective approach. He’s never one to shy from the rhyming descriptions of bodily functions, and on “Glory” he is going for the gusto. The song is an impressive detox for Lil Wayne, who is still currently locked in litigation with Cash Money Records. The choice to release the song exclusively on TIDAL shows there’s no Young Money/Cash Money reconciliation just yet.
If you’ve got a Tidal account (and we that you get one), give it a listen .
