Joe Miklosi, the guy who scared the heck out of Congressman Mike Coffman in 2012, has been named executive director of .
The organization represents Denver Public Schools students in grades kindergarten through 12 who face personal challenges in higher-risk environments to complete high school.
Miklosi is the for Project C.U.R.E., the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries worldwide.
“Joe’s impressive experience and commitment to the youth of Colorado, and track record for launching successful initiatives and seeing them through to completion, makes him a major asset to Denver Kids Inc. and the perfect person to fill this role,” Denver Kids board chairman Peter Karpinski said in a news release.
Miklosi, a Democrat, served in the state Legislature but gave up a chance for another term in the House , a conservative Republican, whose district had been redrawn to make it a swing seat. Miklosi, a relatively unknown candidate who moved into the district to take on Coffman, only lost by a few percentage points. That inspired Coffman to on immigration and other issues.
During his legislative career, Miklosi focused on creating renewable energy jobs and increasing health care access. He was instrumental in passing the Colorado DREAM Act, which empowered undocumented students to earn a college degree at in-state tuition rates.
While at Project C.U.R.E., Miklosi generated millions by creating innovative public/private partnerships.
