Getting your player ready...

Center fielder Charlie Blackmon has climbed out of a deep slump. A first-time all-star last year, Blackmon hit 7-for-41 (.171) over 10 games before the five-game hitting streak he carried into Monday’s game against the Cardinals. His .435 average during the streak lifted his season average to .268.

“It was nothing major that he did. Charlie just continues to make adjustments,” Weiss said. “He prepares so well and he’s a very cerebral player, and he’s in there watching film every day.”

Matt Holliday has dominated the Rockies

St. Louis left fielder Matt Holliday has wrecked the Rockies, his former team, hitting .400 (54-for-135) with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs in 37 games entering Monday. He had a career .361 batting average at Coors Field, with 91 home runs (sixth-most all time) and 326 RBIs.

Looking ahead

Cardinals’ Michael Wacha (8-1, 2.18 ERA) at Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa (2-2, 6.15), 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, ROOT; 850 AM

Wacha, 23, is one of baseball’s best pitchers. His record and ERA speak volumes, as does the fact that he’s 6-0 with a 1.59 ERA on the road this year. He will be making only his second start against the Rockies. He lost 7-6 at Coors Field on Sept. 19, 2013, giving up four earned runs in 4 innings. De La Rosa was given two extra days off to fully heal the cut on his left middle finger. The Rockies have won each of his past three starts, as he’s gone 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA. The left-hander is the winningest pitcher in Coors Field history, but he has struggled at home this year, going 1-1 with an 8.44 ERA in five starts.

Wednesday: Cardinals’ Carlos Martinez (6-2, 2.94 ERA) at Rockies’ Chad Bettis (2-0, 2.70), 1:10 p.m., no TV

Thursday: Rockies’ Eddie Butler (3-6, 4.80) at Marlins’ David Phelps (2-3, 4.68), 5:10 p.m., ROOT
