Tacos will star at the Top Taco contest in Denver on June 25. (The Denver Post, Cyrus McCrimmon)

Taco time is looming in Denver, and it’s not because our Colorado Rockies are cranking out runs in that . On June 25, chefs from some of Denver’s favorite restaurants compete for the Top Taco title.

The event takes place at Denver Sculpture Park at 15th and Arapaho streets, just behind the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Complex. It benefits the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Foundation ProStart scholarship program.

More than 40 restaurants are participating, doubling the number of contestants from last year. Competitors include , Zengo, Margs, and Machete for the Top Taco title in three categories: Creative Taco, Traditional Taco and Margarita categories.

The competition takes place Thursday June 25 from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., rain or shine. Guests must be 21 or over.

Yes, beer will be served, along with wine and tequila. Salsa music comes courtesy of La Candela.


Tickets: $65 for general admission, $95 for early admission, and $125 for the VIP Lounge, where Denver chefs Elise Wiggins of Panzano, and Brian Laird, formerly of Barolo Grill and Sarto’s, will cook.
