Two Denver gang members have been convicted of gun-possession charges that will put them in a federal prison for years, authorities said Tuesday.
Colton Field, 32, a member of the Crenshaw Mafia Gangster Blood, and Jonathan Thomas Fricks, 34, a member of the Oldies 13 gang, face federal sentences after their recent convictions.
The cases were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Denver police and state prison investigators. U. S. Attorney John Walsh’s office prosecuted the cases. Fricks faces up to life in federal prison and up to a $5 million fine.
Staying at a Hotel 6 in Denver, Fricks was arrested after he drove to an Edgewater grocery store. He had been wanted on parole violations.
After $3,755 had been found in his pocket, he was arrested on drug distribution and gun-possession charges. Fricks is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 22.
His car was searched at the time, and authorities found a 9-mm pistol, a second magazine containing five bullets, three baggies containing 47 grams of methamphetamine and other drug-trafficking-related items.
Field, who will be sentenced Oct. 7, was picked up after a noise violation Dec. 11. When an Aurora police officer pulled him over, he noticed Field’s “104” tattoo, which is a sign of the Oldies 13 gang.
After the officer asked Field to step out of the car, Field drove off. Officers later found a 9-mm handgun inside the car. He was found hiding under another nearby car.
