DENVER — Passenger traffic at Denver International Airport increased 1.5 percent in April over the same period a year ago to 4.22 million passengers, airport officials said Thursday.

Passenger traffic was down from 4.53 million passengers in March, and overall DIA traffic was down slightly for the year so far compared with 2014.

Passenger traffic saw a jump of 1.5 percent in April compared with 4.16 million passengers in April 2014. DIA chief executive Kim Day said in a statement that United, Southwest, American, Delta and Spirit had passenger increases in April.

Also, cargo operations handled 45.39 million pounds in April, an increase of 5 percent over the same time last year and the largest cargo total for the month of April since 2011.
