Colorado Springs police arrested a 47-year-old man early Monday on suspicion of severely beating a woman with a beer bottle and his fists because she refused to be his girlfriend.

Lex Pile was booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping.

Officers were called about 12:15 a.m. to a home at the Willowbrook Apartments on the 1000 block of Rice Drive where they discovered the scene.

“When officers contacted the occupants of the apartment, a female covered in blood answered the door,” police said.

Police say they learned Pile beat the woman “over the course of an hour or more.” At one point, the woman was able to escape the apartment only to be dragged back in by Pile who continued beating her, police said.

The woman was admitted to the hospital with “severe facial injuries” that are believed to be non-life threatening.
