Getting your player ready...

Rockies pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, the oldest player in the major leagues at 42, will retire after this season. (John Leyba, The Denver Post)

Re: “Colorado Rockies’ LaTroy Hawkins: baseball’s old sage with big heart,” July 13 sports story (part of “Nine innings” series).

After reading LaTroy Hawkins’ story, I wish he could figure out a way in retirement to expand his legacy in the community. How valuable his perspective on life could be. Young kids who don’t have fathers in their lives would benefit from his words and example. His core values are solid and so worth emulating.

Denver Public Schools, could he be a spokesman for you?
