Forecasters are calling for a balmy day in Denver on Monday with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service in Boulder is calling for a high near 85 degrees in the city with partly sunny skies. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast for after 3 p.m.
“Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over the mountains this afternoon, with only isolated late day storms over the plains,” the weather service said in a forecast bulletin. “A few of the storms may produce heavy rain of up to half an inch in 30 minutes and wind gusts up to 40 mph.”
Forecasts say increasing moisture may keep scattered showers in the mountains overnight.
“Tuesday looks pretty wet and cooler than normal,” the bulletin said. “Showers and thunderstorms will be likely with heavy rainfall possible in the afternoon and evening.”
On Wednesday, drier weather is expected, the weather service says.
From Thursday through Sunday, forecasters expect drier weather with temperatures hovering slightly above normal.
