The producers of a proposed film called “Miss Cannabis” won approval from the Colorado Economic Development Commission on Wednesday for $600,000 in rebates on any spending in the state.

Backers promised the film, despite its name, won’t tread down the path blazed by Cheech and Chong.

“I want to state this is not a marijuana movie,” Colorado film commissioner Donald Zuckerman told the commission.

The plot is based on a true story of a wealthy woman who loses her wealth in a Ponzi scheme and moves to what she thinks is a vineyard but it turns out to be a medical marijuana grow operation.

Although set in California, scouts are searching out locations in Colorado’s wine growing areas. Melanie Griffith, who owns a home in the state, is slated to take the lead role.
