A slight reprieve is expected Tuesday from a stretch of relentless heat in Denver.
Forecasters are calling for sunny skies with a high near 87 degrees in the city.
“It will be sunny and cooler today behind a cold front that pushed through Colorado last night,” the National Weather Service in Boulder said in a forecast bulletin. “There will be a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms over the higher terrain.”
The bulletin said the best chance for storms will be south of Interstate 70 late Tuesday afternoon and into the night.
Forecasters say there will be a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms from Wednesday into early next week, particularly in the high country.
“Over the plains, thunderstorms activity will be more isolated,” the bulletin said.
Temperatures are expected to rise back into the 90s by Friday on the Eastern Plains. Warm weather is forecast to continue through the weekend.
