1 Poor sports. On July 23, officers responded to a large disturbance at Citizens Park at West 22nd Avenue and Chase Street in Edgewater that erupted during a softball league championship game when some members of both teams began verbally challenging and threatening the umpires. The umpires were unsuccessful in controlling the players and the game was called. There were no arrests made and no injuries sustained.

2 Parenting issues. On July 14, Lakewood police responded to the 5900 block of West Atlantic Drive regarding a report of domestic violence. A man told police that his wife had slapped him and broke a door inside their residence. He said they had been arguing over a “parenting issue.” The wife was arrested.

3 Alcohol leads to crash. A man was arrested July 13 for DUI causing serious injury. Police responded to a roll-over crash in the area of South Kipling Street and West Belleview Avenue in Lakewood. One driver suffered a skull fracture and concussion.

4 Beetle theft. Sometime between 10 p.m. July 24 and 8 a.m. July 25, a 2014 Volkswagen Beetle was stolen from the driveway of a residence in the 2400 block of Marshall Street, Edgewater.

5 Abusive relationship. Lakewood police arrested a man July 18 for domestic violence. A woman in the 7100 block of West Custer Avenue said her boyfriend of three years was drunk during a dinner date and accused the waiter of hitting on her. He later hit her several times in the back of a taxi cab on the way home. She said he had been violent with her in the past.
