The swim beach at Chatfield State Park opens Saturday after a long delay in the wake of spring flooding.

The beach has been underwater since May 7, park officials said, but waters have receded and the beach officially opens at 10 a.m.

“We are excited to have the beach open for the season. The area may look a little different from what people are used to. The floodwaters did affect the vegetation around the beach area,” said Scott Roush, park manager, in a media release.

Weather this weekend along the Front Range is expected to be sunny with high temperature climbing to about 90 degrees.

The and current hot summer weather should draw a strong crowd to the popular beach.

There’s no lifeguard on duty, no dogs are allowed, and all children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult.
