1 Neighborhood watch. A neighbor thwarted a burglary from the open garage of a home in the 3700 block of Amber Sun Circle, Castle Rock, at 2 a.m. July 14. He saw three young men enter the garage. One picked up a power drill and rechargeable battery. The neighbor yelled, “Drop what you stole.” The suspect did, and the trio left in a blue sedan parked nearby.
2 Canine kidnapping. A woman living in the 1100 block of Cherry Blossom Court, Highlands Ranch, said she sold two men some items at a garage sale July 18. She brought them change from inside, and the men were already in a blue, flatbed truck when she returned. She noticed they placed her dog in bed of the truck. She retrieved the dog and they drove off.
3 Tricky break-in attempt. A man came home to the 11000 block of Puma Run, Lone Tree, on July 19 to find the top panel of his custom garage door had been bent inward. Police said the damage may have been caused by someone trying to break into the garage by triggering the red safety release tab from outside.
4 Construction site theft. Spools of wire, two drills and assorted other items worth an estimated $2,650 were taken from a construction site in the 10100 block of South Peoria Street, Douglas County, on July 20. Officers found a lock that had been cut off the large tool box there.
5 Vanishing bikes. A woman took her daughters on a bike ride July 20, but forgot to close the garage door when she returned to her home in the 600 block of Chadwick Circle, Highlands Ranch. The next day, the bikes were gone.
