The heat is expected to return in Denver on Tuesday with breezy winds and mostly sunny skies.

The National Weather Service in Boulder is calling for a high near 90 degrees in the city with afternoon wind gusts up to 23 mph.

Elsewhere in Colorado, weather is threatening to be far more active.

“There will be a slight chance of severe storms over the far northeast plains of Colorado this afternoon and early evening,” the weather service said in a forecast bulletin. “Expect large hail and damaging winds with the storms.”

Meanwhile, in the mountains and along the Front Range, a drier and more stable air mass is expected to settle in Tuesday and last into the latter part of the week, forecasters say.

A high pressure ridge on Wednesday and Thursday is expected to keep temperatures hot, the bulletin said. There will be a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms over those two days.
