Colorado weather: Sunny start, possible afternoon showers on Memorial Day

Memorial Day will start sunny and hot but a chance of afternoon showers could dampen holiday picnics and other outdoor activities.

There is a 40% chance of rain after 3 p.m. for Denver and the Front Range, according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust up to 22 miles per hour.

The chance of rain drops to 20% after dark.

During the day, the temperature will peak at 86 degrees. Overnight lows will be around 55 degrees, the forecast said.

The weather will stay warm when people return to work on Tuesday. Highs will be near 81 with a breezy afternoon.

Temperatures will stay in the high 70s and low 80s throughout the week. The next chance for rain will be Wednesday, according to the weather service forecast.
