Firefighters battled a wildfire near Interstate 25 and 144th Avenue near Broomfield Tuesday afternoon, temporarily shutting down lanes of the highway as a safety precaution.

North Metro Fire Rescue District said calls on the fire started coming in just before 4 p.m. and crews were on scene within 6 minutes.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said I-25 southbound was closed at Colorado 7 as a safety precaution. The highway reopened at about 5 p.m., according to CDOT.

North Metro described the fire on Twitter as a “weed fire” that’s burned about 10 acres. There are no threats to the highway or any structures, the fire department said.

Westminster Fire Department was also on scene and the fire was under control in under an hour.

Firefighters remained at the scene to extinguish any flare-ups and hot spots.

There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
