The whole Denver metro area has a serious problem that seems to be getting worse by the year, and was exacerbated after last year’s dramatic temperature drops in November and frigid cold again in January.

I’m referring to dead trees, thousands and thousands of them that died or have been dead for years up and down the Front Range. This year is worse than ever. They are on open space, on residential, commercial and city properties, in parks and on golf courses — literally everywhere. Why aren’t dead trees cut down as they are in other cities and towns across the U.S?

Any city that takes pride in its trees or has been designated a Tree City USA needs to concern itself not only with caring for and maintaining its healthy trees but also with getting rid of its dead trees.
