Yahoo’s latest messaging app is for those who want to be seen but not heard.
Livetext’s odd combination of texting and silent, live video means it doesn’t quite fall into the category of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger nor is it a head-to-head competitor for Snapchat, Vine, Periscope or Meerkat.
Livetext is for times when you want to make faces at your friends but don’t want anyone else to know about it.
Yahoo made a specific design decision to keep audio out of the equation, noting that there are times when you want to share your reactions without a soundtrack. It does have its flaws — namely that there’s no group chat and it’s a power drain.
