Re: “New Cargill seed facility in Fort Collins works to improve on nature,” Aug. 12 news story.

This article mentioned “canola seeds” and “canola plants.” Neither exists, according to a recent “Science Friday” program on National Public Radio. Canola oil is processed from rapeseed oil, which comes from rapeseed plants. Rapeseed oil is most often used for industrial purposes, but Canadian chemists modified rapeseed oil for human use. Thus, canola is an acronym for, “Canada oil, low-acid.”
